Custom Heating/Cooling Solutions - Modular Control Panels
From hardware and software product development through testing, prototyping and production, our custom electronics modules are tailored to your exact specifications.  Our products have recently undergone an extensive redesign to make them both visually and functionally distinctive.  Each product comes with a performance guarantee and on-going technical support; including documentation. Our Modular Control Panels offer the "best of both worlds" allowing you to select as much or as little heat and/or cool control as you need. Our compact basic control board can accept plug-in boards so you can purchase the amount of capacity you need now plus have the ability to add to your system later as your needs grow.  Let us show you how we can design a system for your most challenging control project.

Power Controllers

Thurston Engineering can provide the power controller for virtually any need.   Zero Voltage Switched or Phaseangle Fired Controllers are available for the control of resistive heater loads.  These systems have capacity of up to 80 Amps and will extend heater life while eliminating thermal shock.  Our Stagers are available for heater, heat/cool, or boiler applications.  They accept voltage or resistance input and provide solid state output stages.  Our Digital Staging Controller can drive contactors for up to ten heaters or cooling devices to keep a process at a specific setpoint and can be set to accept input from a thermistor and control temperature under the direction of the on-board processor.  This stager can compensate for outdoor temperature by using an additional outdoor thermistor.  For low cost open loop control, we offer Manual Stations with non-indicating controllers.  These controllers allow manual setting of output levels on SCR power controllers, proportional valves, and other final control mechanisms.  Finally, our Series Converters convert a 4-20 mA input from a process/temperature controller or computer to a time proportional output.  They mount directly on a 3-32 VDC input SSR and support single or three phase 50 or 60 Hz operation.
Mercury Displacement Relays
Our Mercury Displacement Relays are the ultimate solution for your most demanding application.  Our manufacturing process assures that your relay will function consistently in the harshest temperature, moisture, and dust environments.  Special care and cleaning are employed in the manufacturing process to avoid contaminants. Contactors are hermetically sealed using high quality glass to metal seals.  The stainless steel tube is completely encased in high quality UL approved epoxy for exceptional moisture protection.  We use coils wound on compact nylon bobbins, molded onto the metal tube, for minimum power loss, allowing actuation at low coil power and minimizing derating at higher ambient temperatures.  Inert gasses are used internally to prevent excessive arching between the mercury and the electrodes which cuts down on mechanical wear and allows our relays to function reliably for millions of cycles.  Each tube in our multiple pole units is actuated by its own coil to eliminate pull-in variation between contact tubes and ensure consistent switching.

Solid State Relays - Industrial 1-Phase
This Industrial 1-Phase Solid State Relay, commonly referred to as a "Hockey Puck" relay features many key features which make it the most widely used industrial SSR.  Its antiparrallel thyristor output can be used for resistive, inductive and capacitive loads.  The zero switching relay switches on when the sinusoidal curve crosses zero and off when the current crosses zero.  The instant on relay can be used to control input. The built in varistor makes our SSR ideal for heavy industrial applications by offering secure transient protection.  An LED indicator shows the status of control input and a clip on cover offers touch protection to IP 20.  Our protected output terminals can handle cables up to 16 sq. mm.

Additional features include:
Direct copper bonding (DCB) technology
Built in Varistor 480V
Self-Lifting Terminals
Housing Free of Molding Mass
2 Input Ranges 4-32 VDC & 20-280 VAC/22VDC
Operational ratings up to 75 AMPrms
Rated Voltage 480 VACrms
Blocking Voltage 1200Vp
Opto-Isolation> 4000 VACrms

Solid State Relays (SSRs) - Industrial, 3-Phase
These Solid State Relays are designed to switch various loads in voltages up to 600 VAC.  They are typically used in heating elements, motors and transformers.  They contain a built in Varistor necessary for heavy industrial applications and have three semi-conductor power units bonded directly to the substrate for higher reliability and load cycle capability.

Additional features include:
3-Phase Solid State Relay
Zero Switching
